The Eye of the Beholder

An experimental, coming-of-age essay film, ‚The Eye of the Beholder‘ deconstructs a contemporary encounter with Mexico as experienced through the eyes of a couple that travels to the country to escape the harsh north European winter. Rather than being about the country this narrative video work – a visual pastiche of stills photography, moving image sequences, drawings and locally collected ephemera – is a reflection on the relation of memory to photography and depictions of others as muted players on the photographic surface.
